In August the Fresno Police
Department Canine Unit became more prepared to handle emergencies with
their canine partners in the field. Our Board Certified Criticalist,
George White, DVM, DACVECC provided our officers with a presentation
describing what conditions are considered emergencies and what they can
do to help their partners if wounded while traveling to a veterinary
hospital. Some topics the officers learned about included: what to do if
your partner sustains a gunshot wound to the chest, how to place a
pressure bandage, what to do if your partner ingests a toxin, and many
other important topics.
Each canine officer was presented with a first aid kit with all the necessary supplies to keep in their patrol vehicle.
